My younger pup's (Ross's) nose had two fairly large white spots on it when I brought him home at ~ 8 weeks (evident if you look back at People's Border Collie Gallery from this past May June). They were almost completely invisible by 14 weeks. Can't pick them out at all now by 5 months - but that wouldn't have made a whit of difference to me.

Border collie puppy nose pigment. Collie nose problems may result from either one of two causes. Firstly, Discoid Lupus Erythematosus , an autoimmune disease which can eventually lead to squamous cell carcinoma if untreated or secondly a lack of pigment at birth that can then lead to a gradual removal of the nose pad resulting eventually in ulcers which can also lead to squamous cell carcinoma. A Border Collie puppy should have all it's nose and lip pigment by 6 weeks. If it doesnt and there are no merles involved then It's a good sign that there is poor pigmentation in the lines. Border Collie puppies are born with pink noses, lips, roof of mouth and feet. I really want the male border collie pup I found, he is 5 weeks but he has a pink nose. I really want a pup with a black nose. Will his nose be fully black when he gets older? I thought that's the way it is with border collies? Am I right? Billed among the most intelligent dogs in the world, the Border Collie can be a fine companion to those who love the outdoors and follow an active lifestyle. If you happen to be a Collie fan, chances are that you already know about his piercing gaze that he deftly uses to herd cattle.

This is a series of nose pigment color changes over a span of approximately 3 1/2 years. Photos of Fibi (Fibi CGC FM ) are courtesy of Tanya. The breed standard allows unpigmented areas on a puppy's nose as long as they fill in with pigment by the first year. This is the sequence of increasing pigmentation of Fibi's nose as she matured. Border Collie Puppies. A Border Collie puppy may not show the full colors that will appear when he or she is mature. Just know that, except for the merle coloring, the color of the breed should not determine temperament, health, or intelligence. It’s really all about the care you give! The Border Collie is a high energy breed that loves to work and requires activities to keep it healthy and occupied. Border Collies are highly intelligent, sensitive and responsive. They thrive on pleasing their owner day in and day out and will not be happy sitting around a house all day. The result is something truly beautiful. The tri-color Border Collie will have the same base coat color as the blue merle, but with tan / copper markings on the chest, legs, cheeks, eyebrows, bottom and under the tail. They can have markings in all these areas or just some. 7. Chocolate & White Border Collie

The skin condition known as collie nose isn't limited to collies. Various diseases can cause this nose nastiness. If your dog's nose becomes lighter because of loss of pigment, or if he has sores or crusting, take him to the vet for diagnosis and treatment. Random pigment dilution on the nose, eyes, and fur is caused by the Merle gene, and is more prominent in certain breeds. The more pigment dilution on their fur and skin, the more likely they are to have blue eyes.. Is the first picture of a dog laying on the leaves a border collie? I just rescued a puppy that was dumped and we are trying to. Merle is a genetic pattern that can be in a dog's coat.Merle comes in different colors and patterns and can affect all coat colors. The merle gene creates mottled patches of color in a solid or piebald coat, blue or odd-colored eyes, and can affect skin pigment as well. There are two general types of colored patches that will appear in a merle coat: red and blue. The Interesting thing about the ee gene is that when it is masking the Colour of the Coat is doesn't mask the pigment colour of the dog. ie: If the pup/dog has black pigment on it's nose and lining of the eyes then the pup/dog would have been a Black & White Border Collie. The Colour of the eyes will be a dark brown colour

A white Border Collie’s looks and size. Border Collies do have a lot of color combinations, but they’re all the same breed. They’re medium in size with an average height of 18 to 22 inches (46 to 56 cm) and a weight of 30 to 45 pounds (14 to 20 kg).. No matter the color, a Border’s double-layered coat can range from short and smooth to long and rough. Have also seen by the same colour breeders, an increase in lack of nose pigmentation in their solid colours. Especially in a black/white puppy, the nose should be solid by 6 weeks. Red/white puppies can take a little longer to pigment up, but again, should be solid by 8 weeks. Not acceptable: Puppy: Juvenile Adult: Edited January 24, 2013 by. a - a is very rare and hardly ever seen in any breed, let alone Border Collies. B Locus There are two alleles on the B locus. The B locus controls whether a dog is black or brown. B - B is black. It means the dog will have black fur, nose and eye rims. b - b is brown. If a dog has two copies it means the dog will have brown fur, nose and eye rims. Cobain is a registered, purebred Border Collie. His nose, lips and eye rims are liver or red, so there is no mistaking his nose for lacking pigment. Right is Beni who belongs to Aya Morikawa from Japan. "Beni" means red in old Japanese, Aya tells us. She is a smooth-coated dog whose dam was black and white and sire was a red (chocolate) tri.
